Waterloo Quarter Business Alliance (WQBA)

WQBA bought 5,000 cards for local employees in Waterloo. WQBA is an organisation promoting the businesses of Waterloo and it therefore wanted to encourage employees and residents of the area to shop locally as well as giving the larger organisations an added benefit for people who work in the area.
Wedge launched in Waterloo on May 29th 2008 with a 'Try It Local' day. 48 shops signed up, giving one-off specials for the event. Whilst giving out Wedge Cards, the Wedge team enticed local people with complimentary cocktails, cakes and lemonade.
Wedge produced an eight page area guide which went out as an insert in The Big Issue to coincide with thelaunch. A further 10,000 copies were distributed via the 48 participating shops, community groups, employers, schools and the Waterloo Action Centre, our charity partner for this project. In the first two weeks of the campaign, 1550 cards were distributed. If you live in Waterloo, and you would like a Wedge Card, you can buy a card here.

Sanctuary Hereward logo

Sanctuary Hereward

In December 2007 we launched a 'Shop Local Challenge' in East London supported by Sanctuary Hereward. Sanctuary Hereward is a large Housing Association working nationally. They have a vision that extends beyond their own residents, to making the communities in which they live safer, more prosperous and thriving. We have an ongoing partnership with Sanctuary Hereward, which started with our 'Shop Local Challenge' when they purchased 1,000 cards for their residents in Hackney.
As part of their sponsorship package, Wedge signed up a further 18 businesses around Lauriston Road and Well Street (E9) where Sanctuary's Hackney stock is situated. This brought the total of Wedge businesses in the immediate area to 124. Sanctuary was keen to provide cards as an incentive to encourage community involvement. Residents received a mail out from the Sanctuary team inviting them to claim their Wedge Card at their annual May Fair at Well Street Common. Both the Sanctuary and Wedge teams spent the day engaging residents and received an extremely positive response.

How Wedge works in your area

To launch an area Wedge first looks for a local sponsor to purchase a bulk number of cards. The benefits of working with Wedge extend beyond the card purchase. Our local sponsors for an area are able to have their branding on all of the local marketing material and each area is tailored to assist in the local sponsor's objectives. If you are interested in setting up Wedge Card in your area, or for more information, please contact Petronella on Petronella@wedgecard.co.uk or 020 7401 3913.
